LeadPages is one of the top pieces of software – as a service no less – for designing and testing landing pages today. It has a lot of great templates utilizing modern designs with fast code. It has great email capture forms for opt-ins that hook right into your existing mailing list management software. They have extremely easy split testing as well, taking all of the guesswork out of testing changes. One of their most popular features is the LeadBox, a two-step email opt-in that has been repeatedly tested to improve signups. You can implement all of this yourself, of course, but paying a developer is often more expensive than paying the LeadPages monthly fee.

The thing is, LeadPages isn’t always the right solution. There are any number of reasons why you might not want to use their system, from the price tag to the template availability. With that in mind, how about some alternative services?

Unbounce

Like LeadPages, but more famous. Who hasn’t heard of Unbounce by now? Not only do they have a powerful platform, they have a blog full of amazing information that’s free to access. You can reasonably assume that you’re getting that expertise along with any support you need for their landing pages.

Lander

Like LeadPages, but focused equally between a stand-alone site and a Facebook tab. You can use both, or you can focus on one or the other. They have all of the email integration, analytics, and mobile functionality you’ve come to expect out of a landing page builder. As a special note, it accepts Paypal payment processing, which a surprising number of these apps don’t.

LandingI

Like LeadPages, but a little simpler and easier to use. The editor for their template and site building platform is incredibly easy to use, so much so that you’ll be surprised how easily you can find everything. They have over 100 templates to use as starting points, and they’re all completely customizable so your site never feels like it looks just like a thousand other sites online.

Rainmaker

Like LeadPages, but coupled with a very robust and ongoing free and paid hybrid training program. Rainmaker is part of the Copyblogger network, so it has a lot of knowledge and power behind it. It’s primarily focused on WordPress, but works as a stand-alone platform as well.

Megaphone

Like LeadPages, but a lot more limited, while being quite a bit faster. You don’t have analytics, you don’t have opt-ins, you don’t have much more than a template landing page and real time statistics reporting. It works with third party email managers, and it offers customer support channels. It’s quick and easy to use, and above all, cheap. Their biggest, most badass plan is only $150 per month.

ClickFunnels

Like LeadPages, but with a heavy emphasis on the full sales funnel, not just the landing page. You can design opt-in forms and funnels. You can create a full sales funnel. You can set up webinars and a webinar-based funnel. You can even create member sites and product launches that require an exclusive membership fee or members-only access. It’s a short process to go from registering for the service to hosting your page, too.

Launch Rock

Like LeadPages, but designed specifically for new businesses launching new services and products. As such, it has a huge emphasis on hooking customers, getting them to opt-in and setting up responses to their interest. It’s not template-based, requiring that you do a little work to design your page, but it’s better than most WYSIWYG editors out there. As an added bonus, they help promote their customers on their main site, so you have an automatic audience.

Kickoff Labs

Like LeadPages, but loaded with additional tools. You have a lot of lead tracking and demographic information, along with additional features to develop an email auto-response campaign. Analytics are a given, and it has a system to implement a referral program. If that wasn’t enough, they’re known for having excellent support.

1MinuteSites

Like LeadPages, but designed around speed more than on flexibility. You may not have all of the various dozens of options, hundreds of templates, and piles of features you get with other programs on this list. On the other hand, you have a site builder than can go from a new project to a live page in minutes. That’s counting upload times. It has a monthly or annual fee, but it’s very reasonable, at $300 for a year.

InstaBuilder

Like LeadPages, but focused more on templates and modular drag-and-drop building than the additional features. You can implement a welcome gate, you can use two-step opt-ins or three-step signups, and you have an image editor build into the system. On top of all of that, it has a bunch of bundled in analytics, giving you more data than most of the other programs on this list. They also have a 60-day money back guarantee, which is twice as long as most of the rest. They also have an unlimited annual license for $200.

OptimizePress

Like LeadPages, but specifically designed for WordPress sites. This one allows you to create landing pages, sales pages, membership pages, full product launch funnels, and blogs. It’s also mobile-ready, with everything you need to have a responsive site designed with their templates. They don’t have a free option, but their basic package is only $100, with the pro package working up to $300.

Thrive Themes

Like LeadPages, but specifically designed for WordPress sites. Again. Thrive hooks into WordPress and allows you to create highly customized landing pages, along with their specific Thrive Leads plugin. Thrive Leads is a two-step opt-in plugin that mimics the beneficial functionality of the LeadBox. If you’re too attached to WordPress or your existing blog to migrate to a LeadPages site, this option is perfect for you.

Instapage

Like LeadPages, but lacks some of the unique features that make LeadPages as sought-after as it is. Still, the two major features are there; building landing pages and split-testing them. Instapage uses a drag and drop modular design, which allows it to streamline the code of your site to an amazing extent. Likewise, it makes swapping out elements for split-testing incredibly easy.

Emperor Pages

Like LeadPages, but offering you the option of using templates or starting with a blank canvas and building yourself a site from scratch. You can build any kind of marketing page you could desire, you don’t need to worry about the code, and you can even make members-only pages. It’s not cheap, though; nearly $200 monthly for the basic plan, or $1,000 annually for the less limited plan. Still, it’s cheaper than hiring coders and designers.

Hey Kenny, great article. Checking out a few of the platforms right know:) Quick sort-of-relevant question, would building manual squarespace landing pages + opt-in forms work? Can I get a similar landing page from creating manually on Squarespace as I can on Leadpages. The way I understand LP, is I wouldn’t be able to A/B test a ton, but that is manageable. At least until Leadpages makes more financial sense for me. Thanks a ton man, Ryan

FYi – MITS PAGES IS NOT ACCEPTING ANY NEW MEMBERS AT THIS TIME this is the message on their page…

Be careful with Thrive Themes. They auto renew and just charged me $147 U.S. without any warning. I contacted support and they say they won’t refund the charge, pointing to a clause in the contract. Very scammy.
